GIMP (short for the GNU Image Manipulation Program) is a free software raster graphics editor. It is primarily employed as an image retouching and editing tool[3] and is freely available in versions tailored for most popular operating systems, including but not limited to Microsoft's Windows, Apple's Mac OS X, and GNU/Linux.

In addition to detailed image retouching and free-form drawing, GIMP can accomplish essential image editing tasks such as resizing, editing, and cropping photos, photomontages combining multiple images, and converting between different image formats. GIMP can also be used to create basic animated images in the GIF format.

GIMP's product vision is that GIMP is or will become a free software high-end graphics application for the editing and creation of original images, icons, graphical elements of web pages and art for user interface elements.

Tools used to manipulate images can be accessed via the toolbox, through menus and dialogue windows. They include filters and brushes, as well as transformation, selection, layer and masking tools.

Color: GIMP has several ways of selecting colors including palettes, color choosers and using an eyedropper tool to select a color on the canvas. The built in color choosers include RGB/HSV selector or scales, water-color selector, CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, key (black)) selector and a color-wheel selector. Colors can also be selected using hexadecimal color codes as used in HTML color selection. GIMP has native support for indexed color and RGB color spaces, other color spaces are supported using decomposition where each channel of the new color space becomes a black and white image. CMYK, LAB and HSV (hue, saturation, value) are supported this way.[24][25] Color blending can be achieved using the blend tool, by applying a gradient to the surface of an image and using GIMP's color modes. Gradients are also integrated into tools such as the brush tool, when the user paints this way the output color slowly changes. There are a number of default gradients included with GIMP, a user can also create custom gradients with tools provided.
Selections and paths: in GIMP there are several tools that can be used to create selections including a rectangular and circular selection tool, free select tool, and fuzzy select tool (also known as magic wand). More advanced selection tools include the select by color tool for selecting contiguous regions of color and the scissors select tool which creates selections semi-automatically between areas of highly contrasting colors. GIMP also supports a quick mask mode where a user can use a brush to paint the area of a selection, visibly this looks like a red colored overlay being added or removed. The foreground select tool is an implementation of Simple Interactive Object Extraction (SIOX) a method used to perform the extraction of foreground elements, such as a person or a tree in focus. The Paths Tool allows a user to create vectors (also known as Bézier curves). Paths can be used to create complex selections around natural curves, paths can also be named, saved, and painted (or "stroked") with brushes, patterns, or various line styles.
Image editing: there are many tools that can be used for editing images in GIMP. The more common tools include a paint brush, pencil, airbrush, eraser and ink tools used to create new or blended pixels. Tools such as the bucket fill and blend tools are used to change large regions of space in an image and can be used to help blend images. GIMP also has a selection of smart tools, which are tools that use a more complex algorythm to enable a user to do things that otherwise would be time consuming or impossible; these smart tools include the clone tool that copies pixels using a brush, the healing brush which copies pixels from an area and corrects the tone and color where it is being used. The perspective clone tool works in a similar way to the clone tool previously mentioned but also allows a user to correct for distance changes. The blur and sharpen tool is a brush that blurs and sharpens. Finally the dodge and burn tool is a brush that makes target pixels lighter (dodges) or darker (burns).
A list of GIMP transform tools include the align tool, move, crop, rotate, scale, shear, perspective and flit tools.

The GIMP user manual suggests that "A good way to visualize a GIMP image is as a stack of transparencies" where in GIMP terminology each transparency is a layer.[26] Each layer in an image is made up of several channels. In an RGB image there are normally 3 or 4 channels, each consisting of a red, green and blue channel. Color sublayers look like slightly different gray images, but when put together they make a complete image. The fourth channel that may be part of a layer is the alpha channel (or layer mask), this channel measures opacity where a whole or part of an image can be completely visible, partially visible or invisible.
Text layers can be created using the text tool, allowing a user to write on an image. Text layers can be transformed in several ways, such as converting it to a path or selection.

Automation, scripts and plug-ins: GIMP has approximately 150 standard effects and filters, including Drop Shadow, Blur, Motion blur and Noise.
GIMP operations can be automated with scripting languages. The Script-Fu is a Scheme based extension language implemented using TinyScheme, GIMP can also be scripted in Perl, Python (Python-fu), or Tcl.
GIMP has support for several methods of sharpening and blurring images including the blur and sharpen tool. The unsharp mask tool is used to sharpen an image selectively - it only sharpens areas of an image that are sufficiently detailed. The unsharp mask tool is considered to give more targeted results for photographs than a normal sharpening filter.[29][30] The Selective Gaussian Blur tool works in a similar way, except it blurs areas of an image with little detail.

GEGL: The Generic Graphics Library (GEGL) was first introduced as part of GIMP on the 2.6 release of GIMP. This initial introduction does not yet exploit all of the capabilities of GEGL; as of the 2.6 release GIMP can use GEGL to perform high bit depth color operations, because of this less information is lost when performing color operations.[31] When fully integrated, GEGL will allow GIMP to have a higher color bit depth and also a better non-destructive work-flow.
File formats: GIMP supports saving and loading a large number of different file formats,[32] GIMP's native format XCF is designed to store an image including all features specific to GIMP such as layers, channels and vectors; XCF is named after the eXperimental Computing Facility where GIMP was authored.

Well my summer was a little boring, i stayed here all summer except i went with my boyfriend to barcelona for a week, its was okey but id like to go to more places, my parents were the ones who went to places because of there busness and i had to stay here taking care of the house, but the good part was that i went to all the fiestas that were here, they were fun, i also met some french boys and we had a barbecue with them we went shopping and we went to the gugenheim, i made a promise with them that next year i will go to toulouse to visit them. well i only went to the beach 2 because i could go, i had a probable with my foot and i could wet it or get sand in it, this summer was very sad because i broke up with my boyfriend and my dog died, the truth this year wasnt the best year at all.

i promised myself that this is going to be the last summer here, next summer im going to the interrail with my cusin but instead in train we are going in car, that is going to be a summer that i can talk about and have good stories to tell, but this summer there is nothing much to tell, only that i was laying in bed all day getting ready to go out at night and eating a lot of junk food, that was the way i gained about 4 kilos in the whole summer and that is very weird for someone to gain kilos then lose them and another thing i did is to be with my friend at my pool and just being lazy and i had nice house parties too,

The PP took 42 per cent of the vote to win 23 of the 50 Spanish seats in the European Parliament, according to results based on 94 per cent of the vote counted.
Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero's Socialists came second with 38.6 per cent and 21 seats.
The poll was seen as a test for Zapatero at a time of deep economic crisis.
Analysts said the conservatives had needed a clear victory for opposition leader Mariano Rajoy to reaffirm his leadership.
The rest of the seats went to smaller parties. The Coalition for Europe took 2 seats, far-left IU-ICV 2 seats, Union for Progress and Democracy (UPyD) 1 seat, and Europe of the People-Greens 1 seat.
Voter turnout was nearly 46 per cent, slightly more than in 2004 and one of the highest in the EU, Vega said.
PP representative Antonio Lopez Isturiz said European conservatives had achieved 'a very good result' which would allow them to have a 'decisive' impact on 'new European policy.'
Socialist representative Leire Pajin described the result as 'reasonably positive' for her party.

La monumental ciudad de Estella, enclave destacado del Camino de Santiago, cuenta entre sus construcciones de interés, con un edificio moderno: la basílica de Nuestra Señora del Puy, copatrona de la localidad.

Se construyó sobre un alto donde la leyenda cuenta que se apareció una imagen de la Virgen. Primero se levantó una ermita, luego una iglesia barroca y ahora esta basílica con forma estrellada recreando el intenso efecto lumínico que se produjo con el descubrimiento de la talla.

En el interior se conservan una imagen gótica de la Virgen del Puy del siglo XIV y dos imágenes de Cristo crucificado realizadas en el XVII. Desde la basílica podrá disfrutar de una hermosa y completa panorámica sobre la monumental ciudad del Ega.
La basílica de Nuestra Señora del Puy, encaramada sobre un alto, vigila Estella. Es un edificio moderno de estilo neogótico diseñado por el arquitecto navarro Víctor Eúsa. Su construcción se inició en 1929 sobre el antiguo tempo y se culminó en 1951. Una larga escalinata ayuda a salvar el desnivel existente hasta llegar al templo.

Se cuenta que en el lugar donde se halla la actual edificación, allá por el año 1085, unos pastores atraídos por un conjunto de estrellas se dirigieron a lo alto de un montículo. Escondida en una gruta descubrieron la imagen de la Virgen. El rey Sancho Ramírez mandó construir una ermita en su honor, sustituida en el siglo XVII por una iglesia barroca de la que hoy se conservan algunos elementos como el pórtico de entrada y el patio que le precede.

Se da la curiosidad de que la Aparición de la Virgen es anterior a la fundación de la ciudad, el año 1090 en que se le otorgó el Fuero. Esta aparente contradicción se debe a que antes de esa fecha ya existía una agrupación espontánea de mercaderes francos que pudieron utilizar este hecho para llamar la atención del monarca y que éste reconociera y protegiera su poblado. Además intentarían atraer a sus tiendas a los peregrinos que cruzaban el río Ega dos kilómetros más al sur y se dirigían a Irache sin pasar por Estella. Para ello escenificaron la milagrosa aparición de una virgen cuyo nombre hicieron coincidir con el de una de las más veneradas de toda Francia: Notre Dame du Puy. El éxito fue inmediato, y se consiguieron ambos objetivos.

El nuevo santuario se convirtió en un importante centro de peregrinación al que se acudía en busca de milagros. Cuando en 1929 se derribó la iglesia barroca aparecieron numerosos exvotos que recordaban milagrosas curaciones, algunos tan pintorescos como la fotografía de un joven con la cara deformada por el mordisco de un asno.
Pero el milagro más trascendente se produjo en septiembre de 1638. Durante la defensa de Fuenterrabía, cientos de estelleses fueron destinados a combatir en el flanco más peligroso. Preocupados por su vida, se encomendaron a la Virgen, la cual se les apareció y les prometió que todos regresarían sanos y salvos a la ciudad. La promesa milagrosamente se cumplió, y la ciudad, agradecida, la nombró su patrona de ciudad, con lo que a partir de entonces su devoción aumentó.

En la Basílica actual, tanto la planta como la cubierta tienen forma estrellada, elemento que se repite en la decoración y el mobiliario. Gracias a esta forma y al uso de numerosos ventanales, el arquitecto ha conseguido recrear en el interior un intenso efecto lumínico que alude al descubrimiento de la imagen de la Virgen del Puy.

La talla gótica de la Virgen del Puy

La iglesia acoge una imagen sedente de la Virgen del Puy, copatrona de la localidad junto con San Andrés. Es de estilo gótico, del último tercio del siglo XIII o principios del XIV, realizada en madera policromada y forrada de plata. Luce una corona dorada y una media luna a los pies, ambas piezas del siglo XVII. Destaca el rostro, tanto de la Madre como del Hijo, por su forma redondeada y su actitud serena y sonriente.

La Virgen del Puy se guardaba en una arca hasta el siglo XVIII, cuando se instaló en un retablo. Esta arca, de la que sólo se conserva la puerta de madera, está pintada por las dos caras; en la parte exterior muestra un apostolado pintado sobre oro, y en la interior se representa la Anunciación.

En el interior de la basílica del Puy también se conservan dos interesantes imágenes de Cristo crucificado, realizadas en el siglo XVII.

El templo acoge ofrendas florales el 25 de mayo con motivo de la festividad del Puy y en las fiestas patronales, que comienzan el viernes anterior al primer domingo de agosto, en honor a San Andrés y a la Virgen del Puy.
